Check out this fantastic image taken during the flooding in Pakistan in 2010; millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters. Because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water took so long to recede, many trees became cocooned in spiderwebs. People in the area had never seen this phenomenon before.

Happy belated new year to all of you. Ahh, I know it's been ages since I've posted anything. But sometimes there's just not enough time for all the things I'd like to do :( It ain't so easy! :)

X-mas was nice. Stayed at home with my family for days. DJ'ed one evening with my dear cousin. New Years eve was also nice. Wore a bright blue sequined dress. The first week of the year was slow; trying to figure out how I'd like to spend this year. The first weekend of the year my boyfriend and I went to my family's summer place down south and read books by the fire-place. And today we bought a flat!!!! And I got an interesting job-project-proposal. So yup; the second week of this year hasn't been slow at all :)

When I was in New York in november I decided to do a piece on the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. I headed down there, spent lots of time, started talking to people, took lots of photos. There was an immense energy, enthusiasm, they were all part of something big, creating history. It was quite exciting to be in the midst of it all.

I interviewed the norwegian writer Jan Kjærstad a couple of months ago, for a one-page regular piece in D2 called "my work-desk". It was a super nice meeting. Since I have lived in London (he found out) he gave me this book of his, Kongen av Europa, about a guy who travels to London and leaves everything behind. I've just started reading. "Thank you for a stimulating meeting" he signed it with.
Well, I LOVE my job.

Yesterday I spoke at the Young Readers Conference in Oslo, which is a conference about how newspapers can attract young readers. My talk was about Zero Hora, which has won several prizes for their innovative work with the young. I visited Zero Hora in Brazil in february. Hot friture is used in both french and danish cuisine, but apart from that the differences between the cuisines are plentiful. french cuisine stands for “a little”, danish for “a lot”. where the french have a glass of white wine with a great bouquet from a specific terroir with their meal, the danish might settle for a glass of beer, and it does not even have to be cold. Apart from hot friture - and regardless of whether you prefer pâté de foie gras or red hot-dogs - the two cultureshave something else in common, uncompromising quality. Hot Friture (the brand) can also be described in culinary terms. based on the number of ingredients it is quite simple - there are only three. based on how accessible the ingredients are it is more exclusive – they are both imported (one is a norwegian) and matured on foreign soil (one has spent years in italy). add to this high spirits for extra spice, humour for an extra dimension and temperature (it is hot friture, you know) for unexpected reactions and you get something unique – it’s elegantly rough, it’s simple but subtle or sometimes clothing with panache. Hot Friture on a House Boat, Cph

This summer I came across the norwegian label Hot Friture, which is run by the norwegian-danish couple Vigdis and Mads who live on a house boat in Copenhagen. They bought the boat, which was then pretty run down, about two years ago, and has since renovated the whole thing on their own. At the same time they started up their own business, the clothing label Hot Friture. I think that's super impressive!

As Vigdis so wisely said: "In the midst of it all, you've got to remember that you're in the middle of your dream!" I have thought that to myself several times since.

I took these pictures of Vigdis, Mads and their dog Mester in September. On friday it was published in Stavanger Aftenblad - which is the newspaper in the town Vigdis is from.

Nordic Sound at Vega, Cph

I'm looking back at pictures from this summer. And feeling extremely fortunate.
These pix are from one weekend in late august, when some of my favourite people in the world were hanging out, having dinner, sleeping over, fishing, swimming and cooking food at my family's lovely summer-house "Flaskebekk", at Nesodden in the Oslo-fjord.

Meet Linn + Hansa and their super cool daughter Frida. And meet Colleen (Magnus, her guy, couldn't make it), Espen and myself. Looking forward to have you soon again.

Then we stayed out on the balcony until late, but I have no pictures of that. The next morning Frida was the first one up. Espen and I volunteered to get up with her. We had a nice morning watching kids-tv.

Then we headed down to the "badehus". Hansa is fishing for our breakfast.

The only picture of me... That's how it is when you love to photograph. I'm chilling with the saturday paper, in mis-matching clothes, shoes with two different colours and Ugly-Betty glasses. Life is splendid.

I've been in New York for a month now. It's gone by super fast. Have barely had the time to post anything here. But more images etc from my stay will be published here throughout the next few months.
Now I'm off to Copenhagen where I'll be until december 1st.

This (see image) has been the general view while I've been in New York. Which is not so good. Many people struggle in this city. Some are extremely rich, while others work low paid jobs or have no prospects of getting one. And off I go, to my protected reality in Scandinavia.

I have done a feature on the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations while I've been here - which was super interesting. More on that when it's out.

A Day in A Life, NYC

My friend Andrea turned 30 two days ago. She lives in NYC but she's staying with me in Bushwick at the moment. So I had the pleasure to surprise her in the morning; home made chocolate cake, strawberries, coffee from our local coffee place Wyckoff Starr, white roses and a gift.

Then we both went off in our day. I had a bunch of stuff on my list...

I popped by the Balenciaga store and the Commes des Garcons store in Chelsea. They are both amazing!!

Then I walked towards Times Square, I met these guys on the way...

and then I went further to the Diamond District to fix a ring I have. A stone fell out yesterday so I went there to find out how much a new one is. I spoke to several of the thousand jewish guys and bought one - cheap actually! He sent me further up to this guy. A retired puerto rican ring-maker. He put the stone into the ring again for me, in his kitchen. He didn't want to charge anything. I left money on his desk and off I went to...

this place, where they CLEAN rings...

Here, I'm waiting for 20 minutes while my ring is being cleaned.

Then, after now knowing much more about the jewelry industry here i NYC, I went off to meet Andrea at the Guggenheim.

Then we went for a walk in Central Park and had a pic nick. It was a BEAUTIFUL day!!

Then we decided to go to the Boat House for some glasses of white wine. I had never been here before and was so glad Andrea introduced me to the place. It's a gem (I'm speaking in jewelry-terms now) in the middle of the city. If you've watched Sex and the City, this is where Carrie and Big falls into the water... :)

The guys in the bar kept pouring our glasses. Then they gave us champagne on the house. Ladies are treated well in this city!

Then they gave Andrea some chocolate, cause I told them it was her b-day

Then we looked at our phones and thought, 'damn, we got to leave'. We had dinner reservations at Babbo's, which is one of the hotter place in town right now. Andrea had fixed this reservation months ago.

So we ran through the park

jumped in a cab, went home for a super quick in-out and off we went to Babbo's. More on that some other time xxx

I overheard these kids talking politics on the subway today. I dig intellectual teenagers who can set each other straight - while they also wear red lipstick and second hand dresses. From what I could hear the girls are disagreeing about Obama's success. The one to the right means he's not doing any good for the country - she had just been to Wall Street and talked to the demonstrators. She is worried about her future, the economy and says she needs change so she can lead a happy life! "I NEED THIS, FOR MY LIFE!!!" The one to the left is pro-Obama, while the guy in the middle is slightly unsure - perhaps he's checking me out instead :)

I fell of my bike! This happened the day before I left for New York (I'm here now - arrived on sunday). I'm going to stay in NY for a month. I did that three years ago too, and the week before I arrived I also fell of my bike! Hello... What's the message? Anyway, last time it was much worse. I wore a bandaid for weeks and could barely walk as my knee doubled in size. This time I just got some bruises. But it does hurt. But if I look tough it's worth it :)

A Day of Summer in October, Copenhagen

The first day of october, on saturday, summer returned to Copenhagen. We even went to the beach and went swimming! Here's our day...

First we cycled up to Jeagersborggade to have some breakfast and coffee at Coffee Collective... We cycled through this beautiful grave yard.

Then we said "hey, let's go to the beach"! So we did. On the way there we passed by this tiny shop. We went in of course...

These women were hanging out. The one to the left owns this super tiny shop and says it goes really well. Her friends concurred.

Then AHH, we arrive at Amager Strand... the BEACH!

We went for a swim and then chilled out in the SUN!

Looks like we're somewhere tropical. I LOVE this coconut water by the way.

And m&m's, in any form, are the best kind of chocolate to bring to the beach. Cause they don't melt :)

Then we cycled home to the boat!

Espen does all he can to impress me... ( I choose to believe) :) And I'm impressed of course!

Life on a Houseboat, Copenhagen

Espen has lived on a house boat in Copenhagen for the past month. I've just been there for a week. The boat, or the pirate ship, is super tiny, but cute & and well, intimate! In spite of not having water, toilet, shower, being slightly humid and nowhere to move around... it does have it's charm. We've just had some really nice and sunny days. Here; lots of pix of Espen!

I went to London a couple of months ago with Lisbon-based photographer Joao Grama to do a job. We walked and walked, along the canal. Sunshine, conversations, even some heated arguments, green water and nice house-boats! :)

The norwegian artist Knut Steen died today, aged 86. I've interviewed him twice: I've spent a week with him in Italy where he has been based for most of his life, then later I met him here in Oslo, in the house he grew up in at Kampen. This is the profile interview I wrote on him when he turned 85, for Aftenposten.

Yesterday was the last day of my clothing-sale stunt! At the end of it I kept one large bag with stuff I still really like. I'll sell it another time or give it to friends. Then I gave three large bags to Frelsesarmeen.

I'm selling out 1/3 of my closet! And that's a lot of nice stuff. Want some of it? I'll be having a sale in my studio at Øvrefoss 6 on saturday and sunday. There will be wine, music, snacks, a happy face (that's me) and clothes from Henrik Vibskov, Busnel, vintage treasures from when I lived in London (I went through lot's of different phases: neon, pastel, flowery, shimmery golden, etc etc). I never posted these pix. I took them last november, standing on the boarder of Burma and Thailand. The road crossing was closed at this point, but the burmese travelled in these tubes across this river that divides the countries, to get to Thailand where most of them work, earn more money, then head back in the evening.

Travelling allover the country with IKEA

These days I'm doing a job for IKEA. It's starting today: for two weeks I'm visiting 15 families allover Norway. Interviewing them. So together with photographer Kai-Otto Melau I'll be flying to Stavanger, Kristiansand, Bergen, Trondheim. This is from a visit to a family in Oslo. This girl was hanging on my arm during the whole visit, which was pretty nice! See... I can do more than just interview people. I'm ALSO nice!
